Competitive Rank System in Valorant: All you need to know

With the release of ranked mode in Valorant‘s latest update, players are eager to learn about the ranking system, how it works, and there are many questions in their minds. The article focuses on how the ranking system works in Valorant, and answers the questions regarding it.

What is the Eligibility for playing Ranked mode?

You need to play 20 unrated games before you can play competitive or ranked mode. It does not matter what was your performance in those 20 unrated games, whether you lost or won. The only thing that matters is that you have played 20 unrated games completely.

So How do I get my rank?

To get your rank in Valorant you will have to play 5 placement matches. It does not matter you need to win 5 placement matches to get a rank, win or lose you will get a rank, what matters is how you perform in those matches, Riot recommends playing these placement matches as team, obviously winning those matches, and outperforming your teammates will result in you getting a better rank.

There are a total of 8 ranks in Valorant, with 7 of them having 3 Tiers each, the highest rank which one can achieve is Radiant (No tier system there)

How do I progress further with Ranks?

Valorant Devs have answered the question in the best possible manner:-

Your personal performance will have a greater impact on the early evaluation of your skill, but will decrease in importance when compared to wins, as we hone in on your skill over time. Competitive mode also measures how decisively you win or lose. We figure, if there is a benefit to your rank that comes from playing your best for the entire match, it will incentivize you to stay in the fight and not throw games.

Although individual performance does matter, but at the highest rank which is now named ‘Radiant’, the only thing which matters is Winning, According to Dev’s

For those at the VALORANT rank level, winning and how decisive games are won or lost will be the only factor we measure, because at the highest levels of competitive play, we trust you and your teammates have earned your way there.

Will I lose my rank if I stay Inactive?

No, but after 14 days of inactivity your rank will be hidden, and will only be seen again once you play a match. This is done because when others see your rank, it’s an accurate reflection of your skill, although your rank won’t fall due to inactivity.

Can I track my Rank Progression?

Valorant does track your rank progress, but all of the tracking is done behind the scenes, players currently cannot see their progression etc, but Riot Games has indicated that in future updates players might be given the ability to see their rank progression data.

So these are some of commonly asked questions regarding Valorant and it’s competitive mode, If you any more doubts, make sure to ask them in the comments, and we will try our best to answer them.
